Hiring Regulations

• Many employers now require candidates to apply for positions on their website before they will conduct an interview on campus or at a job fair.  This change in recruiting and hiring was mandated by the Federal Government to ensure that employers who receive federal monies are seeking and creating diversity in their work force.  It is anticipated that all employers will be subject to this new regulation within the next two years.
  
   

• There is a specific question that an employer is required to answer when registering for Challenge,
  
          “Must students apply online on your organization’s website in order to be considered
          applicants and eligible for interviews at Challenge?” 
  
  If the answer is yes, then you must apply online with the organization before seeking an interview at Challenge.  Be mindful that the company may answer yes to this question even if they are not interviewing at Challenge.
  
   

• While this requirement is not true for all employers, you must check the employer information carefully to see which employs require online application before an interview can be scheduled.
  
   
• Click on Employers Attending and then the specific employers of interest to find out if they require an online application.
  
   
• During the morning information session, you may find that recruiters will not accept your resume and will not conduct an informal interview with you.  Their primary goal will be to talk about the company/organization, positions, and hiring process.  Please do not be offended if you encounter this situation; it is related to the new federal hiring guidelines.
  
   
• If you apply online:
  
  You will be asked to provide your race and gender.  This is for tracking purposes and recruiters will not know your answers.
  
  You will be required to apply for a specific job within the organization/company.  You will not be able to make a general application.
  
  You may also have to complete a checklist of skills based on the jobs description and meet all or most of the skills to be considered for the job.
